If you are a student, summer is a time for celebration. Spending time with family and friends, vacation, sports, the beach and whatever else the young mind can experience. But work? Who wants to work in the summer? Activities cost money so you must earn some money to add to your life experiences. There are a lot of different jobs available during the summer months for high school and college students. It is a great way to meet new people and gain valuable experience for future employment. It can also be a way to make contacts that will help you in the search for employment once you are out of school. So, get out and enjoy the summer, gain some work experience and make some money. Golf Course
You can work as a caddy, a starter, in food service or maintenance. A lot of courses offer amenities for weddings and private parties as well. So, there could be some opportunities during those special events.
Lifeguard
Many community pools and beaches are always looking for lifeguards. Free training is typically included, and you get to enjoy the sunshine while getting paid! Not to mention, you get to keep families safe.
Landscaping
Landscaping companies are crazy busy during the summer and are often in need of help. Some of it is hard labor but will help build up those muscles and show them off when you go back to school. You can also do your own side business by cutting grass and yard maintenance for your neighbors.
Umpire or Referee
Sports leagues need officials year-round and the money can be quite good. Whether it is baseball, softball, soccer, flag football, soccer or basketball check with your local community park to earn some extra cash. Most officials can earn upwards of $20 per hour. Training is usually included as well.
Dog Walker
People are looking for help when it comes to their pets. You could sign up with Rover or Wag! or do it on your own. Get exercise and make some money while making a new friend at the end of the leash.
House Sitter
A lot of people take vacations in the summer and need someone to watch their home while they are away. You could stay in the home or just check on it occasionally. They may have pets that need attention or plants that need watering. Either way, it could be another opportunity for summer jobs for students.
Work on a Farm
If you ever have the opportunity to be a farmhand, give it a try. It will be a great learning experience and show you the results of hard work. You could bale hay, pick crops, feed livestock or other maintenance duties. You’ll be guaranteed to have calluses on your hands by the end of the summer!

Working in retail can help you gain experience working with the public, which means customer service. It can be working at your local restaurant, hardware store, sporting goods store, grocery store or whatever you find interesting. Believe it or not, you can make some great contacts while working in retail. A good work ethic can go a long way for future employment even if it is not with your current employer.
Sell on eBay
Declutter your home while you let your student sell some things on eBay. You can also go to yard sales and thrift stores and purchase items for pennies on the dollar and flip them on eBay. It is a great side hustle to earn a little extra money.

Yes, people still need babysitters. Students who enjoy being active, outdoors, and spending time with kids can make up to $15 per hour while not really feeling like they’re working.
Cleaning Homes
Everyone seems so busy these days, with family activities, work and school. Cleaning sometimes takes a backseat to everything else, and you can take advantage of that by offering cleaning services. Hourly rates can vary but normally you can charge $25 to $50 per hour to clean someone’s home. You could also price it based on the whole home which can be $150-$300 per home, depending on the size.
These are just a few ideas to make some extra money while out of school for the summer. The “good” jobs go quickly so be sure to start looking and applying while you are still in school so you can have your choice of position.
